Skeleton Story

Some tips:

·     Have clear cut idea of the plot of the story.

·     A suitable title

·     Change present tense sentences into past tense.

·     Present a moral at the end.

 

Frequently used Structures:

*    Once upon a time/ long ago/ many years ago

*    There was/ were….

*    After that, then, As a result,  thus…..

*    Use : v2, was/were +v4, had +v3, Had been+v4

Write a readable story with the help of these guide lines:

A gentleman has a son - the son lives- in bad company - doesn't care for the father's advice to leave the bad company - one day, the father buys a box of ripe mangoes - says to his son "they will all be yours tomorrow" - tells him to put a rotten mango in the middle of the mangoes - next day the boy complains: all the mangoes are rotten - father's reply.

A Bad Company

Many years ago, a gentleman had a son. The son lived in bad company. His father always asked him to leave the bad company, but he didn't care for the father's advice to leave it.
The father thought of an idea to make him leave the bad company. One day the father
bought a box of ripe mangoes. He said to his son, "they will all be yours tomorrow." The father told him to put a rotten mango in the middle of the mangoes and the son did as he was told. The son was much excited for getting the mangoes.

Next day, having seen the mangoes, the boy complained that all the mangoes were rotten. Then, the father replied that if he lived in bad company, he would also be bad one day like these mangoes.
Moral: A rotten apple damages all the apples kept in the same basket.

 Write a readable story with the help of these guide lines:

An old lady becomes blind ... calls in a doctor - agree to pay large fee if cured, but nothing if not delays the cure everyday takes away doctor calls daily ... put eyes on lady's furniture furniture ... at last cures her ... demands his fees ... lady refuses to pay ... saying cure not complete ... doctor brings a court case ... judge asks why she will not pay .. she says sight not properly restored ... she cannot see all her furniture... judge gives verdict in her favour ... moral.


                                      A Blind Lady and a Greedy Doctor

Once an old lady became blind. She called in a doctor who demanded much money. She agreed to pay if he cured her nicely. He visited to her house and stole her costly furniture daily. He delayed in curing her so that he could take all furniture. Ultimately he cured her eyes successfully and demanded fees but she refused to pay him claiming that her eyesight was not properly restored. The judge asked why she did not pay him. She replied that she could not see all her furniture at her house. How could he claim that her eyesight had restored? The judge gave the verdict in her favour. 
Moral: As you sow, so shall you reap?

2.     Write a story using the outlines given below.(Page- 150)

The Bat, The Birds and The Beasts

(a great conflict between the birds and the beasts………two armies collected together…… the bat refuses to join………. Says he is beast……..beast request….. says he is a bird……peace made, no battle…….. rejoicing….. bat wishes to join….. both turn against him…….threaten to tear into pieces…….bat flies away ………. Moral.)

3.     Write a story  that  begins with the sentence ‘One warm summer afternoon an old owl was dozing when a grasshopper disturbed it with a very raspy song.’……….

Skeleton Story For Practice: 

Write a readable story with the help of guide lines and a give a suitable title and moral to it :

a.     A wood cutter's axe falls in a river ... expresses sorrow over it... the river god brings him a gold axe, a silver axe and a steel or iron axe one after another... the wood cutter takes his own axe... the river god rewards him with all the three ... a dishonest woodcutter hears the story and tries to get a gold axe, but loses even his own. Moral

b.      A king's elephant daily goes to a river- passes a tailor's shop ... tailor often gives fruit... one day he sticks a needle in the fruit ... no outright reaction... elephant fills trunk with dirty water ... Moral

c.     A lion sleeping in a forest ... a mouse begins to jump over him ... the lion catches the mouse ... the mouse begs for mercy ... promised to help ... the lion laughs ... sets free ... the lion is caught in a net... roars the mouse nibbles at the ropes ... sets the lion free ... Moral

d.     The king ... a friend monkey ... helps the king in his works king sleeping ... monkey looking after him ... a fly comes ... disturbs the king ... monkey tries to chase ... but can't ... sits on king's face... monkey picks a sword ... hits king ... Moral

e.     A man ... a brave and faithful mongoose - master and mistress go out... small child alone in the house ... a big snake come up ... is killed ... the mongoose's mouth covered with blood... kill it ... find the child safe and sound... moral.

f.       A hare meets a tortoise laughs at his slow speed the hare accepts it ... the swift footed hare is sure of victory... sleeps on the way... tortoise steadily
goes on... reaches the goal first. Moral

g.     A farm girl with a pot of milk... ambitions and plan to do something with the money ... buys some chickens ... lay eggs ... eggs hatch ... sells chicken ... buys a sari and a blouse ... young men fall in love----marries the richest one ... trips over a stone ... pot falls and breaks ... milk spills ... moral.

h.     A crow ... finds some peacock feathers sticks them to his tail ... flies to peacocks... claims peacocks as relatives ... peacocks drive him away ... flies to crows-  crows drive him away - crow left alone and friendless... moral.

i.        A snake frozen by cold... found by a villager... takes it home warms it near a fire... snake then darts of children ... fate ... moral. .

j.        Once - three artists in a city - all skilled - famous three artists compete - one paints a wreath of flowers - a bee comes and sits on the picture - another paints a basket of fruit - an ox tries to seize it - the third paints a curtain - all the three pictures placed before the judge - the judge tries to raise the curtain - this picture judged the best - it deceives a man - others only insect and animal... Moral.

k.     Androcles, slave in Carthage - runs away - lives in a cave in desert - lion comes limping - thorn in foot - Androcles pulls out thorn - lion grateful - soon after Androcles caught - condemns to be thrown to lions - one lion does not touch him - lays at his feet - same lion - Governor hears Androcles' story - pardons Androcles - sets lion free ... Moral.

l.       A poor man and sweet-meat seller ...... the latter a cheat...... gives short measure the poor man grumbles ..... says the sweetmeat seller "No matter, you will have less to carry"....... is paid one rupee less for the sweets......asks for it ...... ...... "Yes, you will have less to count," replies the poor man moral:....

m.   A wicked shepherd boy - graze his flock of sheep near forest - farmers working in a field nearby - boy hits a fun - cries," Wolf! Wolf! - farmers run to help him - the boy laughs at them - no wolf - he does so again and deceives them again - a wolf really comes - the boy cries in fright - no farmers to help - he loses all his sheep - his folly - moral lesson.
